Spreading, Awakening, Nurturing Indian Classical Music

Mid 19th century was a time when Indian music, once cherished in royal courts, was losing its luster. This is the backdrop for the inspiring journey of Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, a visionary leader determined to revive its glory. In 1896, he set off on a remarkable mission – 'Bharat Yatra' to spread the magic of Hindustani classical music to the masses.

Pt. Paluskar ji wasn't just a performer; he was a revolutionary leader of music. In 1901, he sowed the seeds of the ABGMVM by establishing the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Lahore. This wasn't just a school; it was a beacon of knowledge, igniting a passion for music that spread across India as Pt. Paluskarji tirelessly opened many schools across India.

In 1931, following his demise, his dedicated disciples came together to form the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal (ABGMVM). This wasn’t just an homage; it was a promise to carry the legacy forward. ABGMVM standardized music education with a curriculum, conducted nationwide exams, and affiliated music schools across the country, creating a unified force for Indian classical music.

Their dedication didn’t stop there. Recognizing the need for a platform to connect and inspire, ABGMVM launched “Sangeet Kala Vihar” magazine in 1947. This became a vibrant hub for music lovers, fostering communication and engagement within the community.

Today, ABGMVM stands tall as a pillar of Indian classical music. Their unwavering commitment to Pt. Paluskar’s legacy ensures that the magic of this art form continues to enthrall generations to come. It’s a story of dedication, passion, and a vision that transformed the musical landscape of India.
